San Diego State Aztecs (20-3): The Aztecs' fortunes ride with their one-two punch of Jamaal Franklin and Chase Tapley, the Nos. 1 and 2 scorers, respectively, in the MWC. Franklin is the current MWC Player of the Week. In wins against TCU and Boise State last week, Franklin averaged 20 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to pad his season average of 16.0 points and 7.2 rebounds. Tapley is averaging 15.9 points on 47.5 percent shooting.
UNLV Rebels (21-4): Oscar Bellfield made only 1 of 12 shots in the first meeting, but UNLV’s assist leader (5.3 per game) has come on in the last three games, averaging 14.3 points per game on 17-for-33 (51.5 percent) shooting. His production - in addition to the scoring duo of Mike Moser (14.3 points, 11.5 rebounds, third best in Division I) and Chace Stanback (13.7 points and MWC-leading 44.9 percent 3-point shooting) - could tip the game in UNLV’s favor.
1. UNLV leads the series 32-21, but San Diego State has won six straight and nine of the last 10.
2. San Diego State is 13th in the RPI; UNLV is 14th.
3. San Diego State has not allowed an opponent to shoot better than 50 percent in its last 40 games. UNLV is 13-0 at home this season, averaging 51.5 percent from the field at home.
