NCAA Basketball Odds: Pittsburgh Panthers at Seton Hall Pirates
Sunday, February 12, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
The Pittsburgh Panthers and Seton Hall Pirates each had streaks end their last time out. The Panthers sprang to life with four straight victories after an 0-7 Big East start, but that crashed to a halt in Wednesday's 63-51 loss at South Florida.
Meanwhile, the Pirates picked up a desperately needed victory at Rutgers on Wednesday to stop a six-game slide. Pitt's bounce-back hopes begin with Ashton Gibbs, who scored a season-low four points versus the Bulls.
Seton Hall would love another big effort from Jordan Theodore, who scored more than 20 and shot better than 50 percent against Rutgers for the first time since before the skid.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Pirates listed as 2-point favorites versus the Panthers.
Pittsburgh Panthers (15-10): The return of point guard Tray Woodall in the past five games has helped Pitt improve its shooting to 45.1 percent, including 37.7 percent from 3-point range, from respective 39.3 and 25.3 figures during its losing streak. However, the Panthers' accuracy reverted to the latter form against the Bulls. While Gibbs (16.3 points) needs to return to form, the Panthers must also do so on defense after yielding a season-high 60.5 percent night by South Florida.
Seton Hall Pirates (16-8): The Pirates received a key return to the lineup, too, as Herb Pope came back from missing a game with bruised ribs to deliver 12 points and 12 rebounds against the Scarlet Knights. It was the season's 12th double-double for Pope, who averages 15.7 points and 10.3 boards. Theodore's 24 points – eight above his team-high 15.8 average – in the 59-54 triumph over Rutgers boosted the Pirates well above the meager 49.5 they'd averaged the previous four games.
1. Pittsburgh leads the series 51-30, including victories in 11 of the past 15 games.
2. Gibbs shot 3-for-13 and had eight points though Pitt prevailed 74-53 last season. Pope had 15 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks.
3. Woodall posted a career-high 29 points in a victory over Villanova preceding the South Florida loss.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Pirates 65, Panthers 64.
