by Frank Martin
The Boston Red Sox have lost six straight at home to the Chicago White Sox for the first time in 52 years. That streak may continue with Gavin Floyd on the hill Wednesday afternoon. Floyd will try to remain undefeated against the Red Sox when the White Sox aim for a three-game sweep and a seventh straight win at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox, losers of three straight, counter with veteran Tim Wakefield. The knuckleballer is seeking a third straight win.

The Red Sox have opened as 145-moneyline favorites on Bet Online Sportsbook’s Live MLB Baseball Odds.
Red Sox RH Tim Wakefield (2-1, 4.14 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Gavin Floyd (5-5, 3.69).
Starting in place of the injured John Lackey, the 44-year-old Wakefield is proving he still has something left in the tank. The knuckleballer recorded his second straight win on Friday when he held Detroit to two runs and five hits in seven innings. Wakefield is now five wins shy of 200. A.J. Pierzynski is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with a homer and four RBIs against Wakefield, the oldest player in baseball.
Floyd is 4-0 with a 3.53 ERA in six games against the Red Sox, including 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in his last three starts at Fenway Park. He has been haunted by David Ortiz (5-for-17, 2 HRs), though. The righthander will be starting on an extra day of rest after pitching an inning in Saturday’s 14-inning loss to Toronto. Floyd is 2-2 with a 2.39 ERA over his last four starts.
The Red Sox, once the hottest team in the majors, are looking to avoid losing four straight for the first time since starting the season 0-6. Still, Boston has had to rely on a pair of spot starters while Lackey and Daisuke Matsuzaka recover from injuries, which makes the fact that they’ve won 13 of 18 that much more impressive. The main reason for the success is an offense that scored 156 runs in May. Adrian Gonzalez finished with an AL-best 31 RBIs and David Ortiz belted 10 home runs in the month.
Alexei Ramirez tied his career high with four hits and drove in three runs as the White Sox held on for a 10-7 victory Tuesday, their sixth straight win in Boston. The only other time they’ve won that many consecutive games at Fenway Park came during a stretch that spanned the 1958-59 seasons.
The White Sox, who had lost three straight entering the series, have been powered by Ramirez. The fourth-year shortstop is hitting .439 (25-for-57) with 18 RBIs over his last 16 games. In addition, Paul Konerko (7-for-14, HR, 4 RBIs) has been locked in at the plate over the last four games.
Gonzalez is the first Red Sox player to top 40 hits and 30 RBIs in May since Jim Rice in 1978. Rice won the AL MVP award that season.
