Basketball Prediction: Michigan Wolverines at Nebraska Cornhuskers
Wednesday, February 08, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
With the most difficult stretch of its schedule in the rearview mirror, No. 25 Michigan Wolverines has a chance to finish strong. The Wolverines, who concluded a three-game run against ranked teams, face just one more Top 25 opponent.
The first order of business, though, will be to fix the area that is usually a staple of John Beilein-coached teams, 3-point shooting. Although the Wolverines lead the conference in 3-pointers and attempts, they rank ninth in accuracy (31.7 percent).
That number should get a boost against Nebraska Cornhuskers, which has allowed its last two opponents to shoot 43.8 percent from behind the arc.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Wolverines listed as 3-point favorites versus the Cornhuskers.
Michigan Wolverines (17-7): The road has been unkind to the Wolverines in 2012, especially early in games. Their only win in six tries away from Crisler Center is at Purdue, which is also the only contest they led at halftime. In four of their other five road setbacks, they trailed by at least seven points. Zack Novak needs six points to become the 28th player in school history to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. The Wolverines are off to their best 24-game start since 2005-06, when they lost in the NIT Championship.
Nebraska Cornhuskers (11-11): Center Jorge Brian Diaz, who missed five games earlier in the season due to a foot injury, sat out Sunday's loss against Minnesota for the same reason. Coach Doc Sadler called his return this season "a long shot." Without their top shot blocker, the Cornhuskers figure to continue struggling on defense. In the six games Diaz has missed, opponents have shot 50.7 percent. With Diaz, Nebraska was holding opponents to a 41 percent clip.
1. Within conference play, Nebraska and Michigan are the two worst rebounding teams in the Big Ten and rank in the bottom four in 3-point accuracy.
2. Michigan finishes the season with three games at Crisler – where it is undefeated – and three of its four road games against the bottom three teams in the conference.
3. Bo Spencer has led the Huskers in scoring in 16 of their 22 games.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Wolverines 62, Cornhuskers 57.
